What’s On YOUR Grill This Week?
‘Fried’ Turkey and Slow Cooked Chili
Butch & Judy Mangold – California

February 11th, 2009

I received this email from Butch & Judy Mangold describing some of the fun they’re having with The Big Easy.  From the looks of things – I think they are pretty creative  cooks and put on quite a spread.  I’d do well to get invited to enjoy a meal when they are out and about camping!

Happy Grilling!

Hiya CB – We purchased the Big Easy this year for Thanksgiving.

We were camping at Dumont Dunes, California with a group of 55 other folks and made one of the turkeys using the Big Easy. It turned out perfect.  We’ve made two more since then and each time the turkey was perfect.

A new use for the Big easy:

Every New Year’s Eve, we cook chili for a group of 35 – 40 people in our camping group.  This year we decided to try the Big Easy as a slow cooker.  The chili cooked slowly all day and was delicious!

The Big Easy is great for camping!

Sincerely,

Butch & Judy Mangold

Note from CB: The designed  use of the infrared in The Big Easy is for it to directly ‘hit’ meat protein and convert into cooking energy. When you place a metal pot inside the cooker the infrared hits the pot and converts to heat – but in a less efficient manner than when it hits only the meat protein.  So that explains the “slow simmering” – as none of the infrared actually hit the chili, it was converted to conductive heat in the side of the pot.  That’s not a bad thing – just explaining what happens and why! ~CB

Great job Butch, you beat me to it! I had planned soup this summer but was not sure how to do it, now I know.
